An April Finish and some Adventure

Yes yes yes!  I completed a project, and in a fairly timely manner and I'm so happy about it.  I was able to sit down this weekend and finish up my flag/banner I had started for the last hop I was in!  I have a couple different backgrounds to help model my flags:

above the TV

on the neighbors fence

and in my arms :)
I ended up choosing a neat ribbon at Joann Fabrics that does this ombre effect from white to green and matches the fabrics well while doing it's job of holding everyone together.  It's just zigzag stitched across the top of the flags.

These are luggage tags I made from this tutorial at http://www.2littlehooligans.com/2011/01/28/fat-quarter-friday-fabric-luggage-tag/
It was my first time playing with vinyl, and I really like how it went, I had no problems with it sticking to my presser foot, and I'm really excited to make the project bags Jina designed.

This is at "Rocky Acres" aka the land my parents recently purchased.  John is testing the rock crawling capabilities of this end of the property, very important business for sure.  I'm excited that we'll have a decent swimming hole to take advantage of and only have to drive 5 minutes for it!

We were being followed by the neighbors... apparently miniature trucks make them nervous
Here's a good reason to have a bird setting on one's camera.  This guy has a big voice, which makes sense, he's a 12 inch tall bird!  The first meadowlark I've seen in the Walla Walla area in my life, but then, I've never been on this property before, so there you go.

Look at this guys whiskers!  He's probably a great mouser.  He's smack in the middle of Rocky Acres when I used my bird zoom to take this picture.

Now to wrap up this post, the happiest sighting of them all, a genuine hot air balloon!  When I came out from cleaning my mom's store at 7:15am, the first thing I saw was this truck with a trailer that said "Balloon Chase Vehicle" all over it, and I was stumped, thinking, why is he parked all funky in the parking lot?  Then I looked up!  Hahahaha, silly me!  The Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is a month away, and I just love these early sightings.  I've actually been on one, the year before John and I got married.  He helped chase, he's not much for heights.  I LOVED IT, and desperately hope to own one when we are older.  Amazing!

A Super Saturday

My package from Fort Worth Fabric Studios arrived the other day, and here's some pictures of the gorgeous Riley Blake Designs Union Jack and coordinates:

I love the different color combos, my favorite is actually the red/black one, I'm not sure why but it's speaking to me the loudest right now.

All the polka dots, and my first Riley Blake chevron :)  The gray on the left is a cross-hatch print which I'm loving right now too.

I thought this was so funny, what an inventive way to show your colors!

I am also happy because my sister's roommate Amanda came over today to work on her disappearing nine-patch (it's only been on hold for 3 months, that's all...) and we made some good progress.  My Bernina gave us fits though, and after wrangling with it for over an hour we switched to my BabyLock, which fortunately was a good girl.  And the other roommate, Alecia, finished her table runner last weekend, here it is:

She quilted a 1/4 inch inside the inner squares and it looks really nice.  I feel like she did a very good job for her first sewing project since middle school.  And she's hoping to be able to sew with her mom now, this whole thing is going to be a surprise for her!

And we had a visit from the Easter Bunny earlier this week!

He helped me set up for the day, we almost never decorate for holidays, but I'm trying to change that so I took it upon myself to clean the china cabinet and make a pretty area:

The smiley face eggs on the left are from my husband a few years ago, them make me laugh.  And the eggs on a stick in the green basket on the right are actual egg shells that I decorated about 7 years ago.  I'm impressed they have survived this long!

And this concludes my happy Saturday thus far, now I believe we're off to watch a semi-pro football team in Waitsburg, WA and enjoy the sunny afternoon.  Have a great day!

Thank you so much Fort Worth Fabric Studio for the kit!

Paula at The Sassy Quilter showed us how to make this sewing machine cover, which I think would also make a great fabric basket.  And then Jina made a project bag that I'm loving and completely plan to make a couple.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what Mdm Samm comes up with... :)  Follow along, the blog tour is going until May 1st, and maybe you can be a winner too!
